I just got word of some exciting news in the Internet guitar space.

Jon over at Guitar Tricks just emailed me to let me know about a huge new development that is going to change the face of learning guitar online.

This is an absolutely revolutionary event we have needed for years.

Now, if you don’t know Jon, he is the guy that founded the guitartricks.com site back in 1998. This was one of the first sites ever to teach guitar online.

Jon’s a great guy, very excited about guitar education, and his website is huge – with 45 instructors teaching tons of video guitar lessons in any style you could think of.

So what’s the big news?

Guitar Tricks has broken the licensing barrier!

Jon and Guitar Tricks signed a major licensing deal to teach popular songs on guitar.

This is the first legal way for a subscription guitar site to teach how to play songs with video and notation.

Every other site who is licensed to teach video song lessons charges $4-10 per song for the video and then another $2-4 for the notation. That is just crazy.

Guitar Tricks is only $12.95/month. And you can learn all the lessons you want all, now INCLUDING the new song lessons.

One thing about Jon’s email cracked me up, here’s what he said:

Everybody at Guitar Tricks is stoked about our song licensing announcement. It is really great news. On a personal note, I have achieved one of my lifelong dreams: to sign a deal with a major music publisher. Of course, I never dreamed I would be the one writing them a big check!

You see, apparently Jon had to pay an “advance” to the record company and now he wants to raise the cash to pay the next advance to the next record company he is negotiating with.

So he’s discounting Guitar Tricks for one week only, down to $99 for a one year subscription.

That is less than the cost of 1 movie ticket per month, and you can access 3000 video guitar lessons, plus all the song lessons they will be making all year.

The promo is generally open only to existing Guitar Tricks members, but he gave me the link and told me it would be ok to let you guys in on it.
