Every time a few newbies asks, “how long does it take to Learning To Play Guitar”, a tutor will invariably respond “as long as possible”. Even so this really is not normally the situation.

A large number of people (especially young people) decide to learn how to play the guitar because it is a versatile instrument and relatively easy to learn.

To play the guitar it is necessary to perform two completely different tasks at the same time, one with the Left hand and another with the Right hand. Most people use their Right hand to strum the strings, producing the notes which the Left hand fingers. Someone who is naturally Left-handed will often choose a ‘reverse strung’ guitar. This means that the guitar is conventionally strung and tuned, but in the opposite direction. Chords are then played with the Right hand, and the strumming is done with the Left. Sir Paul McCartney is a well-known example, and in the notes which follow this should be borne in mind, reading Right for Left and vice-versa.

The first five minutes of the very first lesson for a complete beginner should not involve holding a guitar. Everyone should spend five minutes every day performing this exercise before starting any further practice.

Many individuals want to learn guitar and guitar for beginners lessons and books can be very useful tools. Of the types of guitar you can play there are three, acoustic, classical and electric. Classical guitars are popular to learn on as they can play all types of music. Most classical guitars have nylon-based stings and have a hollow body.

The acoustic and classical guitars are very similar though the classical guitar has a smaller neck and uses steel rings. Neither of these guitars needs amplification though a classical guitar can be plugged into and electric amplifier. Of the guitars the electric guitar needs amplification in order to be heard. Unlike the other guitars it also does not have a sound hole.
