As opposed to singing in the bathroom mirror or a vanity mirror, I would suggest going to a Wal-Mart or Salvation Army and buying some basic full-length mirrors and putting them in your room so that you can view your full body as you are singing. It’s not that expensive and you can get the same result as you would by renting out a rehearsal room. Stand them up in your bedroom against the wall, put on your stage gear, put the music on, and start singing and looking at yourself. Doing this will be uncomfortable initially. But, once you get over that awkwardness, you’ll start to see things that you are doing wrong or that look buffoonish that you can change.

Chords are the next step in the learning progression. A chord is just a small grouping of three or more notes that are all struck at the same time. The sounds produced from these chords have a much richer and fuller sound compared to any single note. There are many chord structures that must be learned, as well as the major and minor keys in which those structures can be played. Add to that the idea that chords can even be played in several octaves and it rapidly gets clear that the average player can certainly invest months just scratching the surface of the various chord theories.

Progressions naturally follow from all of these notes and chords. A progression involves playing numerous chords or notes in sequence. A true progression should include either chords or notes, but not both. Many people are familiar with the sounds which are created using progressions, because they form the backbone of any musical composition. Progressions can even change within a similar song, as many songwriters make use of altered progressions for the chorus, bridge and verses.

There’s really two kinds of people who should be buying their guitars online, experts or really serious guitar players and beginners. The first group knows exactly what kind of guitar they want, and at that level of price and quality they can be assured that that particular guitar will be terrific. Beginners don’t really care as much, so long as it has six strings and can play. The truth is each guitar is unique as its made out of a particular sheet of wood that experiences conditions unlike any of its fellow models at the factory. Each sheet is alive, and guitars can age with grace or misery depending on how they’re maintained. This needs to be kept in mind when looking online, but even still it’s possible to buy.

Let’s say you’re looking for a vintage guitar. You know what an old Gibson ES125 will sound and play like because presumably you’ve played one before or you have a particular interest in that guitar. There is variety in each instrument, this truth can’t be said nor emphasized enough, but you can count on quality guitar makers to make reliably good instruments. Most sellers are very upfront and compile a list of the defects, repairs, problems with the instrument. Typically they’ll have close up shots of the damaged parts. This will convince you they’re being pretty honest. It’d take a cynic to believe that they’re listing the minor defects so to appear honest only so they can get away with a big, big problem. Check the seller’s history on Ebay. Many reputable music shops sell on Ebay too, so if you can find out where they’re located and learn more about their business this should help.

The piano is not only one of the most highly respected musical instruments, but the most versatile. Violins are terrific for classically composed music, not so terrific for rock. Saxophone is great for jazz, but has a diminished role in rock. Piano can commonly be found in rock, blues, classical, and in countless genres in between. Plus, with modern synthesizers and keyboard effects, being able to manipulate a keyboard enables you to play and endless amount of other instruments! Before you learn about technique, learn what the notes are. You’ll see that there are twelve different notes, and each one is identified by its relation to the adjacent black coloured key. Look at an actual keyboard, or a picture of one, and you’ll be able to visualize it. It’s essential to know what key is what. When you begin investigating you’ll discover that the notes on the keyboard ascend alphabetically, A through G. The white keys are named after a singular letter, whereas the notes in between, the black keys, have a name borrowed from the adjacent white keys. The idea is that as you move to the right the notes ascend in pitch, and they get lower as you move to the left. Get this overall bearing first before moving on.

An acoustic electric guitar is an acoustic guitar which has microphones, transducers or pickups fitted into the guitar. The guitar is a resonably simple instrument to make. This makes it a perfect candidate for construction in places where they can produce it for a fairly cheap price. This type of competition is driving costs (and therefore prices) down while quality goes up. In this regard, you can get a better guitar at most price points than you can get most other instruments of equilvalent quality at.

Guitars are designed to be as accessible and easy to play for the most people as possible (they even have smaller instruments if you do find a standard guitar too big). Weight wise as well they are very comfortable and easy to play sitting down or standing up. Even for a long period of time.
