Pigtronix Unveils the Star Eater Fuzz

Pigtronix Unveils the Star Eater Fuzz

Debuting at Sweetwater’s Gearfest 2022, this all-analog fuzz pedal is designed to provide a wide array of unique tones, packaged in a fun-to-use form factor.

Star Eater is an all-analog, dual footswitch super jumbo fuzz with a foot-switchable booster and variable filter stage, allowing players to easily sculpt a wide variety of fuzz tones. On the fuzz side, newly-available, precision-matched transistor pairs are utilized to ensure that each and every unit is perfectly dialed in to “the sweet spot” that can be so elusive to find in vintage pedals.

A rocker switch provides your choice of Germanium or Silicon color. Downstream from the fuzz, a powerful booster stage drives the filter in Star Eater. Scoop and Bump voicings for the filter can be selected via a rocker switch, drastically changing the frequency response of the Sweep control throughout its entire range. Built to last, Star Eater brings a unique approach and a new standard of performance to the world of boutique fuzz pedals. Runs on standard 9VDC.

EarthQuaker Devices Announces the Special Cranker Overdrive

EarthQuaker Devices Announces the Special Cranker Overdrive

An all-discrete analog distortion enhancement device designed to add extra grit and boost without drastically altering tone.

The Special Cranker picks up where the Speaker Cranker left off. It has the same spongy, dynamic, and touch-sensitive character of the original but with more gain, double the output volume (now with a user-friendly Level control), an added Tone control to shape your signal, and a diode selector switch featuring the original asymmetrical Silicon diodes as well as a hot, new Germanium diode option. The More control goes from nearly clean to a medium gain overdrive when at maximum. This control adjusts the bias of the transistor, so you may hear a little noise as you turn the control.

The gain characteristics are dependent on which diodes are chosen. When the Germanium diodes are selected, the Special Cranker delivers a softer, more rounded response with tamed highs and lower output, while the Silicon diodes add a brighter, more modern edge and higher output. Both are responsive to playing dynamics and offer a high-level of clarity. The Tone control gives the user full command over treble frequencies, cutting the highs when counterclockwise and adding a slight high frequency boost when turned clockwise. The Level control adjusts the output from nothing to nearly double at maximum.

Features

  • Gives your signal extra grit and boost without drastically altering your tone and retains all of the natural nuances and character of your amplifier
  • Two distinct clipping modes that are both exceptionally responsive to playing dynamics: Germanium and Silicon
  • Germanium mode delivers a softer, more rounded response with tamed highs and lower output
  • Silicon mode delivers a brighter, more modern response with higher output
  • At maximum gain, the Special Cranker can achieve explosive overbiased tones depending on the output of your pickups
  • Flexible Tone control to give the user full command over the treble frequencies for excellent tone shaping and clarity
  • All-analog signal path
  • True bypass
  • Silent relay-based switching with Flexi-Switch Technology
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Current Draw: 15 mA
  • Input Impedance: ≈5 MΩ
  • Output Impedance: <25 kΩ

USA Retail Price: $99.00 USD. More info at: https://www.earthquakerdevices.com/special-cranker.

Gamechanger Audio Releases the Bigsby Pedal with Fender

A polyphonic pitch shifting pedal with a design capable of reproducing the feel and sound of the classic Bigsby tremolo arm.

The pedal features Rate, Blend, Tone, and Depth controls, plus an Invert switch on the back panel to change the pitch shift direction, while the Detune parameter mimics the imperfections and dissonant properties of traditional mechanical string-bending hardware. The Bigsby Pedal is also equipped with an external Footswitch Input to turn on Latching Mode as well as an Expression Output that allows you to use the Bigsby as a spring-loaded EXP controller for other audio devices. The BIGSBY also offers full MIDI CC and PC control over all parameters, including preset recalling, and clock syncing. These MIDI capabilities make the Bigsby Pedal a versatile tool for any musician.

The new pedal is being released in close collaboration with Fender – the Bigsby brand’s parent company. The partnership began in the summer of 2019 when Gamechanger Audio approached Fender with the idea to create a Bigsby-style pitch-shifting pedal. This idea was born out of a long-standing admiration for the BIGSBY system’s unique feel, sound, and design. Gamechanger Audio’s main goal was to develop a powerful new algorithm to offer Bigsby tones digitally while keeping the pedal’s interface as close as possible to Paul Bigsby’s timeless hardware design.

Features

  • EXP OUT: This allows you to use the Bigsby as a unique spring-loaded Expression Controller with fully adjustable Depth, Rate and Offset controls – for modulating any expression parameters of other pedals and effects units (via a TRS 1⁄4” jack cable). The BIGSBY Pedal’s Expression Output can be used either in parallel with or independently from the pitch-shifting algorithm.
  • FSW IN: The Bigsby Pedal’s FSW IN connector is compatible with all standard momentary or toggle type footswitches with a TS (Tip/Sleeve) 1⁄4” jack (normally closed or normally open). You can also use a dual-latching footswitch with a TRS jack – in this case, only one side of the footswitch will work. Pressing the footswitch will activate Latch mode. When latched, the Bigsby will hold a constant interval determined by the current position of the Depth knob – this way, you don’t have to hold down the BIGSBY Pedal for long phrases. When in Latch mode, you can still use the BIGSBY’s foot-pedal to make momentary dives and detune effects up to two semitones. Pressing the opposite side of the foot-pedal will flip the pitch shift direction.
  • MIDI IN (3.5mm type B connector): This allows you to control all functions of the BIGSBY Pedal via CC messages and create and save presets onto ten preset slots, syncing the Rate parameter to a specific tempo (with subdivisions), and more.

Mythos Pedals and Novo Guitars Collaborate on the Air Lane Drive

Novo Guitars and Mythos Pedals are proud to release a collaborative two in one overdrive. The Air Lane Drive features two single transistor, hard clipped overdrives circuits that have been tweaked to reflect our sonic tastes. Suite 8 (the Novo side) is a lower gain drive with a pushed low end and extended high end clarity. Suite 9 (the Mythos side) is slightly higher gain with slight bass and treble cut. The MORE! and EVEN MORE! Knobs control gain for each circuit and run the gamut from clean-ish boost to ballsy fuzz like tones.
